LEANDRO LO: STRIVING FOR MORE
The jiu jitsu world was a different place five years ago, when a gangly new athlete broke through in the sport’s lightweight division. His road to stardom started in 2003, a time when 14 year-old Leandro Lo first joined the (now) famous Projecto Social Lutando Pelo Bem (PSLPB) academy. A social project led by a former cane cutter and street hawker by the name of Cícero Costha, himself a black belt taught by Rocian Gracie and Marco Barbosa, Cicero started teaching jiu jitsu to the kids of his impoverished community in Ipiranga, Sao Paulo, with Leandro being one of those local children. Andre Borges profiles one of jiu jitsu’s shining starts inside our latest issue.
