Rumour has it that former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and UFC contender, Jake Shields, is set to replace Ben Askren at Polaris Pro 3. Askren is currently due to face Polaris Pro veteran, AJ Agazarm, at the Poole Lighthouse on April 2nd.

Though best known for his career in MMA, Shields is a jiu jitsu black belt under Cesar Gracie, former IBJJF Pan American champion (2005 purple belt) and bronze medalist from the 2005 ADCC in California. Keen submission grappling fans will also remember Shields’ dominant display against Roberto ‘Satoshi' Souza at Metamoris 5. Though the match ended in a draw, it was the American that showed the most control and dominance throughout.

Much like Askren, Shields is an extremely high level wrestler, having started grappling at the age of nine and going on to become a 2x All American at Cuesta College. If the rumour is confirmed true, Shields represents a whole new set of problems for AJ Agazarm, as he would be facing not only a seasoned wrestler, but also a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt.

Polaris Pro have already confirmed three other matches:

Garry Tonon vs Rousimar Palhares
Gianni Grippo vs Bruno Frazatto
Joao Miyao vs Yukinori Sasa
