Her Highness Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in action

Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum wins silver medal for the UAE national team. Sheikha Maitha is the daughter of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 24 April 2015: Bumper crowds cheered the UAE national team as the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2015, held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, entered its second day of adult competition. One of the most prominent athletes from the 1000 that competed today was Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum taking the silver medal in her first participation in the Championship. Her Highness’ win further portrays her as a role model for all UAE women who aspire to embrace Jiu-Jitsu and represent their country in this national sport. Undoubtedly, Her Highness Shaikha Maitha, who is a former Olympian and a sports aficionado is an inspiration for the 147 UAE girls that won medals in this year’s Children’s Cup.


Following on from the excitement of the previous day’s opening ceremony, it was down to business on day two with over 1,000 competitors in action, representing 86 nationalities in the white/blue, brown, purple and black masters belts. Prizes were awarded by His Highness Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Bin Khaled Al Nahyan.


Speaking with just one day of competition left to go at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2015, His Excellency Abdulmunam Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation said: “It’s been another incredible day of world class competition in the global capital of Jiu-Jitsu, Abu Dhabi. Today we saw more than 1,000 of the globe’s finest competitors battle it out in front of capacity crowds which is an incredible testament for the success of the sport in the UAE. I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum who won a silver medal in today’s competition and brings great honour to this sport. We have just one day of thrilling competition left to go and we look forward to celebrating the sport of Jiu-Jitsu with the fans who come down for the final day tomorrow.”
