There were some standout performances in the IBJJF Worlds black belt absolute division this year, with Erberth Santos and Marcus Buchecha earning places in the final.

Santos was perhaps the surprise package of the day, beating Romulo Barral comfortably on points before submitting last year’s double gold black belt champ, Bernardo Faria. Coming off the back of his gold medal at the WPJJC, Santos will now fight for his chance to claim the most prestigious title in sport jiu jitsu.

Marcus Buchecha was back to his best after an extensive period away from the mats recovering from injury. Buchecha picked-up a huge submission victory over Gracie Barra’s talisman, Felipe Pena, as well as dispatching of Atos’ Keenan Cornelius on route to the final. Both Santos and Buchecha are known for their explosive, aggressive style of jiu jitsu, so you can expect fireworks in the final!

More news from the black belt divisions to follow later.
