This Saturday, July 29th, Submission Series Pro presents Chokes by the Ocean: Sanchez vs Wacker. The event features fifteen exciting matchups including UFC veteran Diego Sanchez vs Mike Wacker, Oliver Taza vs Bradley Hill, Ethan Crenlinsten vs Nathan Orchard and many more. Before the curtains open, local competitors are offered the opportunity to test themselves in a submission-only, no gi tournament outdoors in view of the ocean in Pictou County, NS.

Main Card (Ten minute matches)

Mike Wacker (Black Hole ) VS Diego Sanchez (Jackson Wink)
Ethan Crelinsten (Tristar) VS Nathan Orchard (10th Planet)
Oliver Taza (Tristar) VS Bradley Hill (Gracie Barra UK)
Jaret MacIntosh (Titans Jiu Jitsu) VS Kyle Pindar (Body of Four)
Travis Conley (Underground Gym) VS Joel Jacquard (Renzo Gracie HFX)
Shane Fishman (Body of Four) vs Devin Pirata (El Pirata)

Diego Sanchez has a reputation for unrelenting pressure and intensity with excellent conditioning and though we haven’t heard a lot from Wacker on the competition scene recently, he has an impressive record with wins over high level grapplers such as TUF winner Ryan Hall. The Rob Kahn black belt currently runs Black Hole Jiu Jitsu in Wappingers Falls, NY and has shared his thoughts with mymmanews.com as he prepares for this headlining bout.

Oliver Taza and Ethan Crenlinsten are pupils of both Firas Zahabi of Tristar MMA and John Danaher of the Renzo Gracie Academy, specializing in the leg lock game but also excelling in dominating the back with a multi-tiered system of attack. Crenlinsten faces EBI finalist and 10th Planet black belt Nathan Orchard, who in 2016 won both the Onnit Invitation and NAGA Oregon while Taza will seek to impose his game on Bradley Hill, a prodigy of Gracie Barra Birmingham’s Braulio Estima.

Prelims (Four minute matches)
Nick Power (Abhaya) vs Cole Barr (Forca Training Center)
Cleea Straklevski (Team DNA) vs Gwen LeClair (Synergy)
Tacari Howe (Renzo Gracie HFX) vs Kalabe Arsenault (MXT)
Claire McDougall (Gracie Winnipeg) VS Morgan Lipford (MXT)
The show kicks off with youth battles and you don’t want to miss them! These future stars are in it to win it and have earned their spot on stage through their dedication and hard work. A returning Submission Series Pro competitor, Cleea “The Little Bully” Straklevski out of Team DNA in Ontario, is matched up with Gwen LeClair, a student of Atlantic Canada’s first female black belt, Melyssa Hutchinson, out of Synergy Fight Team in Fredericton, NB.

Check out Cleea winning the Canada Cup here for a preview of what we can expect from her on July 29!

Undercard: (Six minute matches)

Andrew Tenneson (Jackson Wink) VS Brian McLaughlin (Precision MMA)
James Harnish (Marmac Athletics) VS Kent Peters (Zombieproof)
Pat Carroll (Renzo Gracie HFX) VS Jesse Allen (MXT Halifax)
Jesse Gough (Cunningham BJJ) VS Jon Kelly (MXT Jiu Jitsu)
Brady MacDonald (Titans) VS Taylor McCafferty (Marmac)

The undercard is so stacked it could be its own event. First up is Taylor McCafferty, a blue belt out of Marmac Athletics, vs Brady MacDonald out of Pictou County Titans. Taylor competed against Drake Farrell in “The Finisher’s Ball” in what proved to be one of the most exciting matches of the night.

Up next, the undercard is continues with high-level brown and black belt matches including Andrew Tenneson out of Jackson Wink in Albuquerque, NM vs Brian McLaughlin out of Precision Boxing & MMA in Poughkeepsie, NY. These men have proven themselves in the cage and are now squaring off in a submission only match-up.

Each match on the undercard promises to be a nail-biter, another standout brown belt matchup being Jesse Allen vs Pat Carroll. Jesse was the first to ever finish a submission in this match for Submission Series Pro and Pat is stepping onto the mats after an impressive first round victory in his July 22, 2017 MMA fight.
