GORDON RYAN SAYS PENA SUPER FIGHT “WON’T BE COMPETITIVE”
"Now that he feels I’ll be bigger he won’t budge on the weight, but don’t worry child, 5lbs won’t save you, and this won’t be competitive.” - Gordon Ryan
Gordon Ryan, jiu jitsu’s standout provocateur, has slammed Felipe Pena for refusing to fight him at any weight above 210lbs. Both Ryan and Pena have agreed to face off this coming December at Third Coast Grappling, but it seems the weight limit may yet cause a few hiccups before the event comes around.
Pena and Ryan have fought twice previously in both a no time limit superfight and the 2017 ADCC absolute final. It was Pena who emerged victorious on both occasions, picking up a RNC finish in the superfight and a points victory in the ADCC.
Ryan has stated that his upcoming Third Coast Grappling opponent “insisted on a 210lb weight limit and won’t move from that.” The Danaher Death Squad athlete went on to say “I asked for 215lbs (2lbs under his ADCC weight) and he said no.”
You could argue that Pena, who sits 2-0 against Ryan, is well within his rights to stick to his guns on the weight limit for their third match, but you can rest assured there will be plenty more sledging from the Danaher Death Squad athlete before the bout comes around.
Ryan signed of his social media post by saying: “Now that he feels I’ll be bigger he won’t budge on the weight, but don’t worry child, 5lbs won’t save you, and this won’t be competitive.”
