“Are there techniques when I play guard that can work in all areas? IBJJF, gi, nogi, sub only and MMA. Can my game fulfil all of these criteria?”

Tristar MMA Head Coach, Firas Zahabi, believes in cultivating 'Universal Jiu Jitsu'.

Talking on his Youtube Channel, Firas said: “When you’re on the bottom, and you have to negotiate strikes, it changes the game. A lot of the sport techniques go out of the window. This is what I call Universal Jiu Jitsu. Once in awhile, when you’re doing Jiu Jitsu, put on MMA sparring gloves and simulate ground and pound. We do this at Tristar all the time; you barley need to touch the guy, you just simulate shots. What you’re going to see is how your guard game will change when someone is actually punching you.
