Professional MMA went west in the lone star state this past weekend with the Legacy Fighting Championship hosting their first professional MMA event in the “Hub City” of Lubbock, TX this past Friday, August 23rd.  West Texas and the South Plains region of Texas have had a longstanding infatuation with the fight game historically and this event sought to add to it as the first significant promotion since the now defunct Shark Fights promotion visited the area back in November 2011.

Naturally, War Tribe Gear had to be sponsor. This has been several months in a row for us supporting Legacy Fighting Championship events and it has been great with plenty of fights and fighters exemplifying qualities that we like to consider as part of the War Tribe Lifestyle – mainly hard work and sacrifice, showmanship for the fans, and just laying it all out there in the cage. All that stuff is what makes us proud to part of the MMA landscape and we’re happy to grow alongside proud partners like Legacy FC in support of the sport.

Back to Legacy Fighting Championship 22, this event had it all. With 12 fights on the card, the promotion sought to give the live crowd in attendance it’s money’s worth. Meanwhile, the six fights televised on the AXS TV main card as part of their Friday Night Fights lineup, was where most of the interesting action was at, and rightfully so.

The main event of the evening featured a pair of UFC vets looking to continue comebacks with Amarillo, TX native Paul Buentello taking on British import James McSweeney. This was definitely an interesting light heavyweight fight early on and one that ended abruptly in the second courtesy or=f a crushing liver shot delivered by the Texas native, Paul Buentello.

Meanwhile in the co-main event, hometown favorite Eric “Bighead” Davila defeated Artenas Young in a close fight, some people are calling a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.

Other highlights on the main card included a bloody affair featuring Aaron Cerda beating Geo Pacurariu by cuts while another UFC vet and hometown fav in Joseph Sandoval got back on the winning track with a second round stoppage of Jonathan Lopez. Gino Davila and Anselmo Luna completed the LFC 22 winners on national TV.
