About Brian
Born in Tallahassee, FL, Olson started training in Judo in 1979 at the age of six. He has more than 34 years of experience in Judo competition and more than 15 years of coaching on the mats. Olson was known, during his career, as one of the best Judokas that have been produced in the United States. His signature moves were relentless, gripping sequences and his dynamic foot sweeps.
Business
After retiring from Active Competition in 2008, Olson Began teaching Judo at Easton’s BJJ in Boulder Colorado, where he was first introduced to BJJ and to MMA. Olson states, “Working straight ground work opened my eyes to an entirely new world on the ground”. Olson had the opportunity to work with individuals like Shane Carwin, Elliot Marshal, Nate Marquardt, Brandon Schaub and coaches Leister Bowling, Amal Easton, and Trevor Wittman.
Olson’s Martial Arts Academy
In 2010, Olson started Olson’s Martial Arts Academy that was focused solely on teaching Judo. Olson states, “In business and in life, I always bring my competition attributes to everything I do. I want to have the best programs as well as I want to be the best husband and dad.”
Olson’s Martial Arts Academy is now focused on teaching BJJ, Judo, and Muy Tai. Olson states, “I am now hooked on BJJ, it is easier on my body and I am learning something vastly the same but so very different in approach. I am not trying to make Olympic and World Champs yet. It is my goal to create an academy where people can learn, sweat, and have fun while growing the martial arts.
