Did you know that Vinny Magalhaes has only been submitted once during his entire career as a black belt?

Heading into the ADCC this coming weekend, Vinny Magalhaes is one of the favourites to return home with the title in the -99kg division. Remarkably, Vinny – already an ADCC and IBJJF Nogi World Champion – has only been tapped once as a black belt. So, who dealt the 10TH Planet man his one and only submission loss on the main stage?

The answer is, inevitably, Roger Gracie. The match took place over 10 years ago at the 2006 Pan Ams, where Gracie finished their encounter in the absolute division via a choke from the back.

Magalhaes is a notoriously slippery customer, who has a notable superfight win over Gordon Ryan after defending a barrage of leglock attacks. Can Vinny step up to the plate and pick up his second ADCC title this weekend in California?
