Lithuanian-born New Yorker, Dominyka Obelenyte, has hinted strongly that her hiatus from competition could soon be coming to an end. Still only 23 years-old, the Marcelo Garcia black belt has had an extensive break from competitive Jiu Jitsu while concluding her studies and focusing on teaching, but her presence at major events has been sorely missed.

Dominyka was crowned IBJJF black belt weight and open weight champion in 2015, but hasn’t returned to compete since due to a mixture of injury and personal choice. A new wave of competitive black belts have since arrived on the scene, offering Obelenyte the biggest challenge of her career should she return to action.

Taking to Instagram, Dominyka said: "Extremely fun training w/ the awesome @ninajjpower// training since Ive taken a hiatus from competition has been more about flow and less about resistance, and I hope to maintain the same level of fluidity as I continue to prep myself towards competition once again.”
